Today is dedicated to the visit of Assisi, perhaps the most spiritual town in Italy. We depart from our B&B and catch the bus that leaves us right at the top of the hill where the upper part of the town is. We then start walking down following a map and our instincts. We want to take the most out of this day and see as many things as we can. We start off with the Basilica di Santa Chiara, San Rufino and the Piazza del Comune.
Following the Casa di San Francesco and the majestic, breath-taking Basilica di San Francesco, simply one of the most fascinating thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Superb!
During the evening we decide to visit the Eremo delle Carceri, the refuge San Francasco used to come to for praying in solitude.
After a really tiring day walking up and down the hill we reward ourselves with some beautiful local produce and treat ourselves with these delights: tagliere di formaggi (cheese plate), caprese con pane al carbone (caprese salad with charcoal bread) and some incredible sweets. Always go to the rustic trattorie, always follow the locals’ advice!
